Week 4

Told you I am horrible about blogging.

Ok so week 3 went by without a hitch. Haven't seen much more weight loss. I haven't gained anything back, but haven't really been losing either, so we decided to ramp it up a bit. We switched to the next level in the Slim in 6 program, which is called "Ramp It Up." This is a much more intense workout. Today was day 2. Yesterday I only did half of the workout, because it requires a workout band, you know those big elastic things that you might think wouldn't give you much of a workout. Well, we only had 1 so I let Becky use that while I sat and watched her. As I said, the workout is more intense and it is almost double the time of the first workout in the program. So yesterday I was feeling pretty good. We went to the store and bought another band last night so I could do the full workout.
Ok, so I did the full workout this morning. I just have one thing to say ----- "OOWWW!!!" That was a workout. 47 minutes of non-stop intense work. Maybe I am a big wuss, but that workout kicked my butt. I was a little skeptical about the resistance band being able to do anything for me, but it gave my muscles a run for their money. I am pleasantly surprised. Hopefully this will kick-start my metabolism and weight loss again. By the end of the workout I was drenched in sweat. Gross, I know, but it felt good. I could barely move at the end of the workout, and I can still feel my muscles burning 4 hours later. That really is a good thing. As far as my stats go, I am at 262.5, size 40 pants. My goal is to be in a 38 by Thanksgiving and a 36 by Christmas. Who would have ever thought that I could get down to those sizes? I never thought I could do it before, but now it is a real possibility in my mind. I have set the intention to achieve it, and I am going to do it. I'll check back in soon

Week 2

Ok, so it's been just over a week since my first post. I told you I'm not that good with the blogging thing. It's the middle of week 2 on the Slim in 6 program and I am feeling pretty good. The workout is not too intense yet, but it is a good workout. As far as weight loss, I am actually up 2 pounds today from where I was this time last week. I had actually dipped down to 256, but am back up to 259.5. That being said, I am starting to notice my size going down. When I started the program I was fitting pretty comfortably in size 42 pants. I am now in a comfortable size 40. so to drop a pant size in 1 week isn't too shabby. I have also noticed that my shirts are fitting a little looser than they used to. I am impressed. Who would have thought that something purchased off an infomercial would really work. I am actually now planning on doing the P90X program once we are through Slim in 6, and then who knows. I was watching the INSANITY infomercial the other day and think that that may be the natural next step after P90X. Whatever I end up doing, one thing is for sure, I am done being the flabby old me. So it will probably be another week until my next post, but hopefully I will be able to step it up and start posting on a more regular basis.

Let's get this thing started

Ok, so Becky and I have started a new fitness program. Several weeks ago we ordered Beach Body's "Slim in 6" program. That's right we got sucked in by the infomercial promising rock hard 6 pack abs in 6 weeks. We have both kind of been on a fitness kick lately (ok, I have been off the fitness kick for a while. When my truck broke down, I stopped going to the gym and only recently started riding my bike to work. Becky does a combination of jogging and walking on the treadmill for 99 minutes a day.) I have to say I am pretty proud of how far we have both come. I have lost about 25 pounds since May and Becky is down about 16 pounds since June. Lately, though, we have both kind of been in a holding pattern with our weight loss and decided we needed to do something drastic to kick start it again. Going to the gym is out because with work and school and the kids, we never make it and riding my bike and the bus is not conducive to going to the gym early in the morning.

So, we decided to try the Slim in 6 program. For anyone who is unfamiliar with the program it is a high energy aerobic workout made by the same company that makes P90X. I see it as kinda the precursor to P90X or in other words the lower impact workout designed for fatties like me. It promises dramatic results in 6 weeks. Since ordering it, we have left it in the box to collect dust. This weekend I decided that I was not going to just let it (and me) collect dust anymore and we started the program. So yesterday morning Becky and I got out in the family room and started the first workout. It wasn't too bad. The workout itself is about a half hour long and it is fairly intense, but again it is intended to help those who are weight loss challenged so the first workout is naturally lower impact.

So yesterday morning before the workout, I weighed in at 260.5. Not ideal but a lot better than the 285 I was at 4 months ago. We did the first workout yesterday, and I was a little sore throughout the day, but not bad. This morning, we did our workout and it completely kicked my butt. I didn't realize how sore my muscles were from yesterday until I tried to use them again. Holy Crap, I am out of shape. I made it through the workout though and decided to weigh myself this morning and to my surprise I had dropped 3.5 lbs. Weighed in at 257 even. I have to say that I was skeptical about the weight loss promise of Slim in 6, but if this keeps up, I will be feeling pretty good in 6 weeks.

So that's where we are. 2 days into the program and I am very encouraged. I am fairly new to the blogging thing so we'll see how this goes, but hopefully I will keep it up. I will at least update my weight and stats on a regular basis.
